To the fae of the Sorcen Court, Princess Allina Kingsdaughter is a traitor and a fugitive, inevitably claimed by the same madness that cost her father his crown and his life. Ensnared by the lies of her uncle, the reigning Sorcen King, they will never know the truth of her betrayal.
A traitor princess.
After the tragic deaths of Allina’s parents when she was five, her uncle ascended to the throne in the ensuing chaos, bringing peace and prosperity to Sorcen for the following fourteen years. Allina has always considered him her true father—until the day he orders her death and starts a war by kidnapping Prince Cohrven Nightheart, heir to the Liral Court, a wicked realm Allina’s only heard of in whispers.
A captured prince.
Everyone fears the Nightheart. When he was twelve, he earned his name and his dark reputation as a monster without mercy—or remorse. Since then, rumours of his unrivalled cruelty have only grown.
An evil that has been waiting…
When Cohrven is tortured by her uncle in a gruesome spectacle, Allina uses her hidden illusory magic to save him and escape, but not before his wings are shredded. As her uncle hunts them, time is running short before Liral retaliates in a devastating attack that Cohrven assures will annihilate Sorcen and everyone Allina loves along with it. To survive and preserve the Court that has forsaken her, Allina has to trust the Nightheart, even when he leads her to an ancient evil that could be their destruction.
Wings of Starless Night is an enemies-to-lovers, slow burn, romantasy debut that will captivate you all the way to its breathtaking conclusion.
This one was a total cover-splurge for me. Meaning, I saw the cover and needed to read it! Thankfully, my addiction to pretty covers served me well this time and I was able to read (and enjoy) a lovely eARC from the author.
The story’s strengths, for me, were in the fact that not all was revealed right off the bat. There was a lot about the world, this takes place in, that, even after finishing the book, I still have questions about. And because of those questions, I think I was incredibly hooked through the story–hoping for answers. I also really loved Allina–for the most part, anyway. There were a few times when her foot-stomping or pouting would remind me how young she was supposed to be. But her character is what shone through the most. And, although, she seemed a bit adrift at times and unsure of who she was, I feel like this will be fleshed out in the series as it goes.
The issues I have, had more to do with the fact that, well, there was still so much unknown. There were a lot of things just left for the reader to fill in through this story. Some of those things are more difficult to overcome–like, why is Allina so enamored with the Nightheart. I mean, the reader knows there’s more to him than his moniker–but, Allina doesn’t. Yet she’s so pulled in. I guess I just felt like their relationship was a bir forced.
And some of the magic was a bit confusing to me too. And maybe it was supposed to be that way. But I’m not entirely sure that the magic system is all fleshed out by the author.
I will definitely be reading more of this series and more of this author. As I said, I’m kind of hooked now. I need to know what happens. I need to know more about the relationships between the Nightheart and his family.
All-in-all an entertaining read that I didn’t get bored with at all. And in the land of overdone fantasy romances, that’s a rare thing indeed.
Sounds like it is a good thing that there is a series if so much was left unknown! But I agree, that cover is gorgeous. Great review!

Great review, Christine! Sounds like this was a solid first book in a series so hopefully it will only go up from here on out as the books continue. Thanks for sharing!
