Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This week is dedicated to my favorite book couples from the romance genre. This is, admittedly, one of the easier top tens for me! đ
Diana and Matthew, The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness
Deep in the stacks of Oxford’s Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library. Diana has stumbled upon a coveted treasure lost for centuries-and she is the only creature who can break its spell.
Claire and Jamie, Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
The year is 1945. Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenachâan âoutlanderââin a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of Our Lord…1743.
Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life, and shatter her heart. For here James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desireâand between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.
Anne and Gilbert, Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
Favorites for nearly 100 years, these classic novels follow the adventures of the spirited redhead Anne Shirley, who comes to stay at Green Gables and wins the hearts of everyone she meets.
Includes Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, Anne of the Island, Anne of Windy Poplars, Anne’s House of Dreams, Anne of Ingleside, Rainbow Valley and Rilla of Ingleside – the whole collection. Each book includes: The original, unabridged text; a specially commissioned biography of L.M. Montgomery; a map of Prince Edward Island.
Gabriella and Marcello, River of Time Series by Lisa T. Bergren
Most American teenagers want a vacation in Italy, but the Betarrini sisters have spent every summer of their lives among the romantic hills with their archaelogist parents. Stuck among the rubble of the medieval castles in rural Tuscany, on yet another hot, dusty archaeological site, Gabi and Lia are bored out of their minds…until Gabi places her hand atop a handprint in an ancient tomb and finds herself in fourteenth-century Italy. And worse yet, in the middle of a fierce battle between knights of two opposing forces.
Suddenly Gabi’s summer in Italy is much, much more interesting.
Rain and Wes, The Rain Trilogy by BB Easton
âNone of this matters, and weâre all going to die.â
With only three days left until the predicted apocalypse, the small town of Franklin Springs, Georgia, has become a wasteland of abandoned cars, abandoned homes, abandoned businesses, and abandoned people. People like Rainbow Williams.
Rain isnât afraid of dying. In fact, sheâs looking forward to it. If she can just outrun her pain until April 23, sheâll never have to feel it at all.
âSupplies. Shelter. Self-defense.â
Wes Parker has survived every horrible thing this life has thrown at him with nothing more than his resourcefulness and disarming good looks. Why should the end of the world be any different? All he needs are some basic supplies, shelter, and a sucker willing to help him out, which is exactly what he finds when he returns to his hometown of Franklin Springs.
As society crumbles, dangers mount, and secrets refuse to stay buried, two lost souls are thrust together in a twist of fateâone who will do anything to survive and one who canât wait to die.
Perhaps, together, they can learn how to live.
Before their time runs out.
Ren and Kelsey, The Tiger Saga by Colleen Houck
Passion. Fate. Loyalty.
Would you risk it all to change your destiny?
The last thing Kelsey Hayes thought sheâd be doing this summer was trying to break a 300-year-old Indian curse. With a mysterious white tiger named Ren. Halfway around the world. But thatâs exactly what happened. Face-to-face with dark forces, spellbinding magic, and mystical worlds where nothing is what it seems, Kelsey risks everything to piece together an ancient prophecy that could break the curse forever.
Tigerâs Curse is the exciting first volume in an epic fantasy-romance that will leave you breathless and yearning for more.
Rose and Demitri, Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead
Only a true best friend can protect you from your immortal enemies . . .
Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth’s magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires – the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa’s best friend, makes her a dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.
After two years of freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir’s Academy, a school for vampire royalty and their guardians-to-be, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. But inside the iron gates, life is even more fraught with danger . . . and the Strigoi are always close by.
Rose and Lissa must navigate their dangerous world, confront the temptations of forbidden love, and never once let their guard down, lest the evil undead make Lissa one of them forever . . .
Katy and Daemon, Lux Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, Iâd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring⌠until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something⌠unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemonâs touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way Iâm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I donât kill him first, that is.
Feyre and Rhysand, A Court of Thorns and Roses Series by Sarah J. Maas
Feyre’s survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill â the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price …
Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre’s presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.
Cat and Bones, The Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost
Flirting With The GraveâŚ
Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father â the one responsible for ruining her motherâs life. Then sheâs captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership.
In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. Sheâs amazed she doesnât end up as his dinner â are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesnât have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side ⌠and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.
Do you love any of these couples? Hate them? What are some of your favorites?
Anne and Gilbert will always be a favorite. It was so fabulous watching them and the love between them grow. Rhys and Feyre were too hot to handle, and they were such a good pairing. He was really the ONE for her. I struggled with Rose and Dmitri at first, but I grew to like them together.
Sam@wlabb recently posted…Top Ten Tuesday: Come On, Get Happy
I LOVE when I meet other Anne/Gilbert fans. They are one of the very first OTPs that I fell in love with! Rose and Dimitri definitely had to work for their happy ending!
I agree with Sam. Anne and Gilbert are such a great couple.

I love to read them every year or so… They bring back memories of my childhood. đ
I haven’t read any of these, so I haven’t met the couple. I’m glad you loved them, though!
