Just after the Second World War, in the small English village of Chawton, an unusual but like-minded group of people band together to attempt something remarkable.
One hundred and fifty years ago, Chawton was the final home of Jane Austen, one of England's finest novelists. Now it's home to a few distant relatives and their diminishing estate. With the last bit of Austen's legacy threatened, a group of disparate individuals come together to preserve both Jane Austen's home and her legacy. These people—a laborer, a young widow, the local doctor, and a movie star, among others—could not be more different and yet they are united in their love for the works and words of Austen. As each of them endures their own quiet struggle with loss and trauma, some from the recent war, others from more distant tragedies, they rally together to create the Jane Austen Society.

Plot

Anyone who is an Austen fan will be able to appreciate the idea of saving Jane Austen’s home. On top of that, there is so much more to this story!

There’s romance, humor, budding friendships, and amazing characters that leap off the pages!

In this fictional tale a group of people come together to start the Jane Austen Society–an eclectic group of people who want nothing more than to preserve Austen and her memory.

They must overcome obstacles both personal and in regards to the Society. And along the way, grow together and change each other.

Characters

I can’t help but love each of these characters. And the thing is–they’re all so different! But, they all have their love for Jane Austen in common which binds them all more than they all could ever have dreamed. And then the Jane Austen Society is born!

Each character undergoes their own journey–some more difficult and heartbreaking than others.

Writing

The writing was what made this story. I couldn’t help but get sucked into the story. And I give credit to Ms. Jenner and her love for Austen… It came through the pages!

Pacing

The pacing was just perfect! Each chapter brought new insights to the characters and made me fall in love with them more. Jenner did a fantastic job of telling this story in an engaging and unique way!

If you haven’t read Jane Austen–you should still read this. Because, I have no doubt you’ll want to read her novels after this. If you have read Jane Austen, then you’ll appreciate this story and how it brings the reader closer to Austen’s history and home.
