Soon to Be a Major Motion Picture!
USA Today Bestseller!
Debut author Sally Thorne bursts on the scene with a hilarious and sexy workplace comedy all about that thin, fine line between hate and love.

Nemesis (n.) 1) An opponent or rival whom a person cannot best or overcome;2) A person’s undoing;3) Joshua Templeman.

Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman hate each other. Not dislike. Not begrudgingly tolerate. Hate. And they have no problem displaying their feelings through a series of ritualistic passive aggressive maneuvers as they sit across from each other, executive assistants to co-CEOs of a publishing company. Lucy can’t understand Joshua’s joyless, uptight, meticulous approach to his job. Joshua is clearly baffled by Lucy’s overly bright clothes, quirkiness, and Pollyanna attitude.
Now up for the same promotion, their battle of wills has come to a head and Lucy refuses to back down when their latest game could cost her her dream job…But the tension between Lucy and Joshua has also reached its boiling point, and Lucy is discovering that maybe she doesn’t hate Joshua. And maybe, he doesn’t hate her either. Or maybe this is just another game.

Soooo, this book was an addiction. A momentary, one-day, full-on, I can’t focus on anything else–addiction.

No, I haven’t seen the movie. But I’m going to just take a stab that it won’t be as good as the book. Are they ever?

Lucy was an absolute delight. She was tough, witty, and sarcastic… But there was a vulnerability underneath it all that made her incredibly realistic and human.

Let’s be honest–Joshua came off as a bit of an ass. I mean, here you have this perky, sweet woman (who gets along with everyone) and he’s just so rude to her! There was no doubt, though, from the beginning–that there was more than what we, the readers, were seeing. Joshua’s obviously was being an ass to keep his real feelings from coming out.

Same for Lucy. She was just protecting herself from Joshua’s attitude.

Knowing all of this, it was clear that this was going to be a fun story of how these two were going to let down their guards. And it was so worth it!

There were some seriously humorous moments, some more serious ones where I really felt for both characters, and sometimes when I wanted to throttle both Lucy and Joshua.

This book was so well-written. Even though it was a pretty standard rom-com–and the ending wasn’t too hard to figure out–it was full of moments that I didn’t want to miss. So it kept me reading until I was completely through with it.

  1. YESSS! I just recently read this one for the first time, as well. I loved it. I will say that I actually really enjoyed the movie, which I watched after I read the book. Of course it wasn’t as good as the book, but they were fairly faithful to the plot and it brought the characters even more to life for me. Great review!
