Welcome to Tea & a Chat!
This is where I pick random topics to discuss… while I sip on a warm cuppa!
For today’s Tea and a Chat I made Earl Grey tea, Earl Grey and butter scones, and my own homemade clotted cream! It was delicious!
This one has been on my mind for some time because I recently went through a previously read series and found myself loving it more the second time–which meant that I changed some of my ratings…
At first I felt a little weird about it. After all, that rating had been on my Goodreads for years. And I wasn’t sure if I was changing it out of some weird emotional mood or because I really felt like the book got better to me with age.
Then the more I thought about it, I decided that as we mature–and our tastes differ–we may all read (or re-read) books and then decide that something we once liked, now isn’t quite as awesome as we once thought.
Or maybe something that I didn’t fully appreciate before, is now one of my favorite reads.
For example–ten-year-old Christine would have definitely given each and every Babysitter’s Club book a 5-star review. Now, don’t get me wrong, The Babysitter’s Club books are classics and will live on forever–however, would I now, as an adult, rank them at a 5-star rating, with the likes of Jane Austen, Lucy Score, or Grady Hendrix? No, probably not.
So it’s safe to assume that when I started this blog ten years ago, at the age of twenty-eight, that now, when I’m almost forty–my book tastes have changed quite a bit.
So now, without any guilt or hesitation, I have no problems changing a rating of a book–for the worse or better.
Please tell me: Have you ever changed a rating on a book after re-reading? Or even after just re-thinking your previous review?
I think about this sometimes. When I have time and go back and try to reread a book I loved when I read it, maybe I only read it the once, and now I don’t like it as much as I thought I did. Great discussion!

I change my ratings all the time. Like you said we mature and our tastes change, which is only normal.

Your tea and scones made me hungry. I’ve changed my rating on books after re-reading them, and it could go either way. Especially if it’s been some time between readings. I guess age and experiences changes your tastes and perspective.
Yes! I agree with this completely!
