Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.
Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.
Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy is this good-looking.
But when Cara’s classmates get swept up by anti-L’eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn’t safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara’s locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.
Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she’s fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.
~My Review~
I don’t know what it is about books that feature aliens that make me love them, but they really do. Okay, to be fair, not all alien books are great, but there are quite a few that I’m kind of in love with.
Am I in love with Alienated? Ab-so-lute-ly!!!
I’d been seeing this book featured all over the blogging world for quite some time now. I mean, with a cover like this, who can miss it? It was just BEGGING to be read! So, what’d I do? I bought it the first chance I got (thank you Amazon for the settlement money!). Alienated took me about a day to read, which is pretty normal for books that I have insane love for. It was me getting sucked in, almost ignoring everyone and everything else around me (sorry, kids).
This, like many other creatures-from-outer-space tales, is about an alien who comes to Earth with a chip on his shoulder for humans. He doesn’t like them. Which, given the way his kind see humans as destructive and over-emotional, I can kind of understand it. But, of course, the endearing L’eihr, Aelyx, soon realizes that not ALL humans are horrible.
Although, most in this story, are quite horrible, indeed.
The best part of this book was the love that Aelyx and Cara develop. I don’t think either one of them expected to find a soulmate in the other, and that’s what makes this perfect. It’s a star-crossed love story. It leaves the reader wondering how can two individuals from completely different worlds, EVER find their happily-ever-after.
Well, seeing as how this is just the first book in a series, we don’t get there, yet.
Ms. Landers tells this tale with near perfection. I couldn’t find one hole in this story. One thing that made me hesitant to commit to it. The writing is superb and the characters are what drew me in. The only reason I didn’t give this book a perfect rating would be because I felt that the ending was a bit rushed. Just my opinion.
You can bet that I WILL be following this story to its conclusion.
