Three young women make a pact in high school—to always be friends and to one day make it big in Manhattan.
My Royal Showmance
Anika Fox knows exactly where she wants to be, and it’s not on the set of a reality TV dating show. She’s working her way up at the production company she works for and she’s close to achieving some of her dreams. The big boss just wants one thing from her. She’s got a potential problem with the director of The King Takes a Bride and she wants Anika to pose as a production assistant and report back.
As the king of a tiny European country, Luca St. Marten knows the world views him as one of the pampered royalty of the world. It couldn’t be further from the truth. His country is hurting and he’s right there on the front lines with his citizens. When he’s asked to do a dating show, his counselors point out that it could bring tourism back to Ralavia. It goes against his every desire, but he agrees.
When one of the contestants drops out at the last minute, Anika finds herself replacing the potential princess. She’s sure she’ll be asked to leave the first night, but Luca keeps picking her again and again. Suddenly she finds herself in the middle of a made-for-TV fantasy, and she’s unsure what’s real and what’s simply reality TV.
What a fun read this was! I hadn’t read the first in the series but that really didn’t matter. Even though it featured some of the same characters, I was able to jump right into this world and connect with Ani and her friends.
This one is about Ani, who is working as a production assistant to see if she can figure out if the director of a new reality show is causing problems behind the scenes. Unfortunately (or not), Anika gets pulled into taking the spot of one of the other girls on this Bachelor-esque type dating show.
And then she realizes that she knows the bachelor… And cue the fun.
What I loved about this one was Anika and her friends’ relationships. They were definitely giving off found-family vibes. They are the type of women that are always there for each other and loyal until the end!
The whole premise was pretty interesting too. I loved the reality show feel and the dynamics of the women living together, competing for a man.
I even liked the king–Luca. He was everything a man should be. Kind, funny, charming, etc… EXCEPT… I didn’t quite by into his and Anika’s relationship. That part just felt a little bit rushed to me. Which is why I wasn’t at a 4 stars with this one. However, that didn’t ruin the story at all for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the ending and I’m really hoping to read the first book in this series.
This sounds so fun! I am going to have to give it a try, it was already on my TBR, will just try to get it sooner. Great review!
