The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Billy Burgess from Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.
Oh, I absolutely do. For the most part, especially with author requests of NetGalley reviews, if I’m rating a book fewer than three stars, I tend to not feature that book on my blog. It almost pains me to put comparatively bad reviews on my blog.
I really don’t want to come off as author or book-bashing. Mostly because I realize that just because that particular book may not be my cup of tea, doesn’t mean that someone else may not like it.
And with more independent published books, I realize that–in the case of poor editing–authors don’t always have the finances to hire the best editors to clean their books up. So, I just feel kind of gross making it a big deal.
With that being said, I will always offer an author my honest opinion and give it in a respectful and pleasant manner.
These are my exact thoughts as well! If I am at the point I wouldn’t give a book at least 3 stars, most likely I won’t finish it either. And if I don’t finish a book, I don’t believe it’s fair to give a rating. I will give a little blurb on my blog or goodreads about why I didn’t like it. But like you, I think it might be that it just isn’t the book for me and someone else might like it!
