She’s loved and lost him a hundred times across a thousand years. She can’t bear to lose him again.

Lin’s dreams are haunted by faces of people she’s never met. Unable to shake the feeling she’s lived before, she’s drawn to Reinier—a stranger whose soul is heartbreakingly familiar from a time gone by.

Reinier helps Lin unravel the mystery of her past life as Hannah, a girl who sacrificed herself for her true love, Matthew. As Lin falls hopelessly in love with Reinier, her memories of her life as Hannah sharpen and she finds herself unable to let go of Matthew.

With her heart torn in two, Lin must decide whether she should stand by Reinier’s side or track down Matthew and fight for his love. What she doesn’t know is that her decision will ripple across our troubled planet, affecting far more lives than just her own.

Winner of Romance Writers of Australia’s Emerald Pro award, The Soulweaver is a story that will change the way you see the world.

Heidi’s debut novel, The Soulweaver, won Romance Writers of Australia’s Emerald Pro award and will be released by Crooked Cat Books on 19 Jan 2018.

Not being able to decide if she prefers living in Melbourne or the Mornington Peninsula, Heidi shares her time between both places. She is similarly pulled in opposing directions by her two sons and two dogs, remaining thankful she only has one husband.

Top Five Tips for Aspiring Writers by Heidi Catherine

We’ve all heard stories about those rare writers whose manuscript got scooped off a slush pile by a big publisher, who immediately signed them for a six book deal and they made a million dollars. I’d love to tell you that’s what happened to me, but my story is far more common than that.

I wrote my first manuscript twenty years before I signed my first publishing contract, which means I spent half my life chasing a dream and it was the bumpiest ride I’ve ever been on. Sometimes I wish I counted my rejections. Most of the time I’m glad I didn’t. With each rejection came the unspoken questions that would buzz around in my head. Is it time to give up? Are you good enough? Is it really worth this pain?

But somehow I shut down that voice. I gave myself time to be disappointed, but not too long. I got back up and reminded myself of my dream and went back to work. And it was worth it, because eventually that work led to my dream coming true. Signing that publishing contract was one of the sweetest moments of my life. And six months after signing that first contract, I signed two more.

So here are my top five tips for aspiring writers (in other words, please learn from my mistakes!):

  1. Don’t write a book that you think will be easy. Write a book that you would love to read. Because no matter how good a writer you are, if your heart isn’t in it, then it will show.
  2. Join as many writing groups and organisations as it takes until you ‘find your tribe’. Having likeminded people to learn from and share this lonely ambition can make all the difference.
  3. Enter as many writing competitions as you can manage. They’re a great way to get unbiased feedback and any wins will look impressive on your writer’s resume.
  4. Be patient. Success as a writer can take time. A long time!
  5. Don’t listen to that voice in your head. No, it’s not time to give up. Yes, you are good enough (or you can learn to be!) And yes, this really is worth the pain.

Good luck! And most importantly, enjoy the ride.
